Liposomal means the glutathione is encapsulated in a liposome (fat globule) in liquid form. When it reaches the enterocyte brush border (site of absorption), the cell takes in the entire liposome through endocytosis. Once inside the cell, the liposome breaks open and the glutathione is released directly inside the cell. The problem with glutathione supplements that are not liposomal is that by itself, glutathione is not endocytosed and most of it remains in the gut lumen and is never absorbed
Most glutathione supplements have N-Acetylcysteine. Glutathione is made of 3 amino acids - cysteine, glycine, and glutamate.
